At 67, RKJ is the oldest competitor in the VELUX 5 Oceans race. But he is considered one of the world's most accomplished. In 1969 he competed in the Sunday Times Golden Globe becoming the first man to sail non stop around the world.

The VELUX 5 OCEANS race is the longest, toughest and most dangerous single-handed round the world yacht race. The over 32,000 mile race has its first leg nonstop from Bilbao, Spain round the Cape of Good Hope to Fremantle, Western Australia.
