The EU Directive required EU member states to transpose the Privacy Directive into their local laws by 31 October 2003. The UK Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations, Statutory Instrument 2003 No. 2426, were laid before the UK Parliament and published, with an "in force" date of Thursday 11 December 2003.
